One of Professor Hailwood’s greatest contributions as Managing Editor was his patient and generous mentoring of authors during the peer review and revision process, shepherding valuable work to publication that might have foundered without his guiding hand. In recognition of this, we thus announce the Simon Hailwood Essay prize, to be awarded to an early career or returning scholar (with a maximum of 3 working years post Ph.D.). The winning essay will be published OPEN ACCESS (normal cost £1500) in Environmental Values. The choice of subject is open, but should fit within the following parameters: the topic should originate in environmental philosophy, with a non-anthropocentric orientation, and connect philosophical enquiry with one or more other disciplines covered by EV and with real-world environmental issues.
Essays should be 4,000–5,000 words, focused on presenting a novel idea and/or argument, as opposed to extensive literature review, but otherwise conform to EV’s usual requirements regarding style and intellectual rigour.
Essays should be submitted via the online submission system and ‘Hailwood Prize’ should be indicated as part of the
title.
The deadline for submissions: 30 September 2022
