ESEE Training Institute on Multiply Methods in Governance of the Commons: The Central European School


In October 2012 (22-28) third ESEE Training Institute took place in Bratislava. Self-governed educational institutes are to bring innovative ideas of theoretical and practical challenges of multi-method application

and collaborative research and the education of doctoral and post doctoral interdisciplinary environmental researchers.  Institute was jointly organised by the Centre for Transdisciplinary Study of Institutions, Evolutions and Policies (CETIP) and Centre for Excellence Spectra+ in Bratislava, Slovakia. Hosted by EC Tempus Joint Program 511390 on Environmental Governance for Environmental Curricula at the Faculty of Natural Sciences Comenius University in Bratislava and University of  Usti nad Labem.

The main focus of The Central European School on Multiple Methods in Governance of the Commons was to explore importance of methodology to study governance of the commons under the complexity of global world and uncertainty of external events such as natural and social shocks. The participants experienced insights into the core theory and practice of environmental governance and how cialis buy multiple methods can increase validity of research results. Module I expanded theoretical foundation of collective actions and environmental governance and introduced key components of multiple methods approach: experimental approach to study social dilemmas of commons, case study research on common pool resources and agent based modelling. Daniel W. Bromley, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Jouni Paavola from the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds participated as key note speakers. Module II  introduced principles of collaborative research skills and two thematic workshops self-organised by CETIP early stage researchers on topics: Experimenting with the commons and  Agent

based modelling.
