Basque Centre for Climate Change Course

BC3, Basque Centre for Climate Change and the UNESCO Chair on “Sustainable Development and Environmental Education” of the University of the Basque Country in collaboration with Conservation International, the University of Vermont, Earth Economic

s and the Bilbao City Hall, launch the “International Spring University On Ecosystem Services Modeling”. Is

the first edition of an annual 2-week intensive course that aims to build a new generation of actors, in research, policy and management, who can profitably use ecosystem services models to address and solve sustainability problems.

The course will follow a problem-based paradigm, learning the most advanced Ecosystem Services modeling

techniques from theory and practice using case studies defined by the participants.

In two weeks of intensive instruction, participants will master the modeling language that runs the ARIES modeling platform (www.ariesonline.org ) and learn how to effectively model ES problems of different scope and scale. The school will teach participants the use of open source modeling software, enabling participants to independently create, run and analyze Ecosystem Services models and scenarios. We aim for the school to become the primary source of hands-on instruction on Ecosystem Services assessment worldwide.
