Research Fellow in the Governance of Energy Demand Reduction – University of Sussex

Deadline: 7 September 2024
Position: Research Fellow in the Governance of Energy Demand Reduction
Location: University of Sussex, UK

The Energy Demand Research Centre (EDRC) at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint a highly talented and motivated researcher to join the Centre’s “Governance” theme, and the “Framework, paradigms and practices for low energy futures” project.

This interdisciplinary Post-Doctoral position will focus on approaches and frameworks for governing energy transitions across two streams of work: 1) frameworks for assessing co-benefits and wellbeing impacts of energy demand reduction measures in UK net zero pathways and; 2) green growth and post-growth framing for governing energy demand reduction.

Through a mixed methods approach involving literature reviews, interviews, workshops and deliberative user engagement with energy policy stakeholders and citizens, the research aims to understand how assessment of social, economic and environmental co-benefits of energy demand reduction measures can be better incorporated into UK energy policy making, and how the economic framing influences decision-making and policy priorities. These insights will be of core relevance to the EDRC consortium and in developing public policy to stimulate energy demand reduction, as part of a net zero pathway.
