Job Description

The doctoral program “Dimensions of Justice in Sustainable Transformation Processes in Rural Areas” uses a comparative approach to examine fundamental questions about aspects of justice in sustainability-oriented transformation processes, particularly in rural areas. The doctoral college is guided by the overarching question of how just transformation processes can be successfully designed and managed. It works inter- and transdisciplinary and methodologically pluralistic and has a network of (inter-) national partner institutions (including Leuphana University Lüneburg, Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research, Basque Center for Climate Change, Lund University, Copernicus Institute/Utrecht University, University of Vermont). Your Tasks
  • Conception and implementation of your own research or qualification project related to the doctoral program;

  • Participation in the supervision of doctoral projects and coordination of the scientific program accompanying the doctoral college;

  • Publication of research results in international scientific journals and other relevant publication organs; presentation of results at scientific conferences; and

  • Participation in research management tasks related to the doctoral program.

Your Profile
  • A completed Ph.D. in a field relevant to the doctoral program with a grade of at least “very good / magna cum laude” (or equivalent for foreign degrees);

  • Excellent knowledge of sustainability and transformation studies;

  • Willingness to improve one’s own academic qualifications;

  • Good knowledge of empirical social research methods;

  • Ideally, first academic publications in international peer-reviewed journals;

  • Experience with inter- and/or transdisciplinarity is an advantage;

  • Very good analytical skills, strategic thinking and an independent, committed and organized way of working and thinking;

  • Very good written and spoken English (at least level C1) and good knowledge of German required (at least level B2).
