WILL ACHILLES CATCH UP WITH THE TORTOISE?
IT’S HIGH TIME FOR TRANSFORMATIVE ACTION ON SUSTAINABILITY
Dipartimento di Economia e Management
Università di Pisa, Italy
June 14 to June 17, 2022
The 14th International Conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics takes place exactly 50 years after the UN conference on the human environment, where the UN acknowledged the environmental crisis. Yet the current state of the environmental crisis seems to indicate that the needed actions and policies have not yet been implemented. We need to move beyond solutions based only on technology, and design transformative action on sustainability.
The conference addresses these issues, and aims to contribute to a better understanding of the actions needed to change the current unsustainable trajectories of human society and economy, by addressing amongst others the science-policy gap. The questions: ‘Will politicians catch up with science and engaged civil society?’ and ‘What are the transformative actions to escape from the current unsustainable paths?’ will stand central during the conference.
We welcome original theoretical and empirical contributions, from different disciplines and geographies, on topics including: Transformations, Theoretical perspectives and new ideas, Teaching and communication, Resources, Policies, Institutions and power, Business and transition, Behaviour and social change, Alternative economies.
